Avantgarde brings the acclaimed exhibition David Bowie, curated by the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, to Berlin. The show will be open to the public from 20 May to 10 August 2014. While at first glance this sounds like yet another run-of-the-mill type of client news, it is actually a big step we’ve taken. Here are six reasons why it is important on a much larger scale:
1. Avantgarde is the host and organiser of the exhibition
Not a museum or an arts council, but yours truly experts for experiential marketing bring the prestigious show from the V&A to Berlin. Of course, the show has been curated by a museum (the V&A) and it does take place in a museum (the Martin-Gropius-Bau). Still, apart from organising the whole show we brought all partners together and made sure it happens on our home turf.
2. We draw from our long experience in arts and culture
For more than ten years, we have worked closely with various public institutions and private companies on various cultural projects. Be it the world-famous dOCUMENTA(13), the Semperoper Dresden or the O₂ Worlds in Hamburg and Berlin – we know how to stage art and culture, be entertaining and educative at the same time, and create positive and lasting experiences for visitors. For the first time, we can make use of our experience and put it to good use at our very first own project.
3. We throw in our expertise in creating brand experiences
Many regard David Bowie a global brand, and so do we. His work as a musician aside he carefully works on his own image, has created millions of loyal fans, and is a recognisable public figure around the world. It is exciting for us to work on this new type of brand experience and to learn from and get inspired by what the art world has to offer.
4. We add commercial thinking to the art world
We helped two opposing forces unite – in a good way, of course. On top of our experience in managing arts projects, we also helped connect the museums with commercial partners, and opened up new possibilities in financing a project on such a scale.
5. The show is going to be spectacular
The exhibition David Bowie explores the creative processes of Bowie as a musical innovator and cultural icon, tracing his shifting style and sustained reinvention across five decades. It will be a comprehensive audio-visual exhibition experience using multimedia technology at the most advanced technical level. Be it handwritten lyrics, original costumes, fashion, photography, film, music videos, set designs, Bowie’s own instruments and album artwork – we make sure to combine it into a state-of-the-art exhibition experience. We might be a little biased, but we believe this show is going to rock!
6. You can already buy tickets
While we’re very excited about the interest in the show and find it hard to predict the number of actual visitors, it might be a good idea to get your tickets rather soon. Have we mentioned that the show is going to be spectacular? Head over to www.davidbowie-berlin.de and get your tickets now!
