Yesterday, the grand opening of the exhibition David Bowie took place in the venerable Martin-Gropius-Bau. We explained before that we are the organisers and why the exhibition is a big deal for us. Avantgarde was successful in creating a big media buzz, as more than 300 journalists were accredited for the press conference and an early press preview. Not surprisingly, the exhibition was featured in all major German newspapers, in several national TV news shows, on the radio, and online as well.
In the afternoon, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Germany’s Minister of Foreign Affairs stopped by for an exclusive tour through the exhibit, and to give a speech during the opening event. He said: “[The Bowie song] ‘Heroes’ is an homage to Berlin. If Berlin has a soundtrack, than this record is its title song.” Furthermore, he called the exhibition a “spectacular retrospective”. Other speakers included our very own managing director Alexander Boettcher, the Victoria & Albert Museum director Martin Roth, and famous German actor Ben Becker.
Speaking of famous people, during the opening ceremony and the party afterwards, many celebrities were spotted. Among them actress Heike Makatsch, Einstürzende Neubauten singer Blixa Bargeld, German band Beatsteaks, curator Noram Rosenthal, and Travis singer Fran Healy.
Enough words for now. We selected a few shots from yesterday’s press day and opening night. Click yourself through it and make sure to visit the show yourself! Get your tickets here: www.davidbowie-berlin.de
